Today I am using a resist technique with the Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Watercolors.

Those fun, modern circles (Let's Chat by Penny Black) were stamped with Miskit to create the resist.

A tiny bit of Miskit was poured on a non-stick craft sheet and the stamp was "inked" by pouncing it in the liquid.  After the image was stamped and the Miskit dried, I added my watercolors.
(Important Note:  Clean stamp as soon as you have finished stamping.)

Once the watercoloring was completed, the dried Miskit was rubbed away from the watercolor paper.

May Arts Ribbon was wrapped around a thin strip of cardstock for a textile embellishment.  This stiffened the ribbon allowing it to be elevated.

The second accent was created by stamping the chevron (Let's Chat) in two ink colors: Lilac Posies Memento Luxe and Aquatic Splash VersaMagic.  Tip/Hint:  By over lapping the stamping applications, a tricolor motif can be created.

The finished design was then stamped with a sentiment (Remember This) in Onyx Black VersaFine and then layered with Penny Black's Lattice White Embossed Paper on to a white card base.

[Supplies: Dr. Ph. Martin's Hydrus Watercolors, Penny Black: Let's Chat 30-244, Remember This 30-246, Lattice White Embossed Paper EP402; Imagine Crafts/Tsukineko: Onyx Black VersaFine, Lilac Posies Memento, Aquatic Splash VersaMagic; May Arts Ribbon; Miskit; 3M Scotch Dimensional Foam Tape

I LOVED working with these BOLD and bright watercolors.  And to begin, I decided to do simple stamping and painting on both of my cards.
To create this card, I stamped my image (Penny Black 40-320 Charming) onto watercolor paper  using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I created my own palette of watercolors on a large acrylic block.  I could mix colors on this block, too.  When adding the paint to my image, I first painted clean water onto the area I wanted to color and then added the paints, allowing the layer of water to do the blending.  I also used this same painting technique to paint the background/sky. I really love the loose, artsy look it achieves.  And the Dr. PH Hyrus Watercolor stayed uber-vibrant when painting in this manner.
This card was created using the same techniques, although this time I used another favorite stamped image, Penny Black 40-323 Poppy Time.  I finished both cards by stamping my sentiments (Penny Black 30-244 Let's Chat) with VersaMark ink and heat embossing with white powder.  Finally, I added the watercolor panels to white notecards using dimensional adhesive.

Thanks for poppy-ing by today...stay tuned to see what Elizabeth does with these happy paints. I can't wait!

Introducing Dr. Ph. Martin's

Out & About with Jill

It's been such fun to be...
...on the Penny Black blog, playing with the new Penny Black collection, Pocket Treasures
Here's a peek at what I created. I just had to feature the furbabies on my 8.5 x 11 inch page.
And here's a look at my card, too.
To view the PB&J video, click HERE.

I also wanted to share a couple other projects I made for this new release, both featuring Inchie Arts Art Squares.
This first card uses two white Twinchie (2") squares.  I stamped my image (Penny Black 30-244 Let's Chat) using VersaMark ink and embossed with white powder.  I then colored the hearts and surrounding area with Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Art Grip Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils.  I added water to blend and because I was working on the sturdy matboard of the Art Squares, I could add lots of water without any warping or "pilling" of the surface.
For my next project using Art Squares, I created a pair of vintage-style ATC's.

For both ATC's, I used a white ATC-sized Art Square.  For the watercolor background, I colored with Tombow Dual Brush Pens onto my acrylic block, spritzed with water and then pressed the ATC's into the puddles of ink.  Once dry, I repeated this process, this time pressing the edges primarily into darker colored puddles of ink.  Next I stamped the backgrounds (Penny Black 30-247 Life's Journals) using Espresso Truffle Memento ink.  The flowers (Penny Black 4383K First Dance and 4377K Noble ) were then stamped using Distress Paints.
Thanks for visiting today! Additional Inchie Arts information and inspiration can be found on their blog and Facebook page.

Gelli Plate Technique 4, Project Reveal: Elizabeth

Join us over the next few weeks as we explore making colorful prints using a Gelli Arts Gelli Plate.  We've even slid our art tables side-by-side and took pictures for you each step along the way!  Not only that, the fun continues as we share our “reveal” posts showing how our individual prints were transformed into creative projects.

Click "here" to see a step-by-step tutorial of how I created my print for the Gelli Plate "painterly" technique.

Which was then transformed into this mini card.
I loved how this print turned out.  I call it my mini Georgia O'Keeffe.

Penny Black's Promise Me is the star of this design.  In this close up you can see I added some detailing with a black Micron pen and shading with Dr. Ph. Martin's Bleed Proof White.

Lost Without You (Penny Black) was stamped in Onyx Black VersaFine on a die cut banner (Triple Banner) edged in Peanut Brittle Memento.  This piece was then elevated above the bottom portion of the card base which is covered with Penny Black's Scroll White embossed paper.

I found it very helpful doing this warm-up exercise with the Gelli Plate before I started painting to get a feel for how the paints moved across the plate.

I mixed acrylic paints with open acrylic gel (to extend the drying time) and applied them randomly with my fingertip to the Gelli Plate.  Then I rolled my brayer across the colors once, applied my paper and pulled my print.

Multiple thanks (part of Penny Black's Foliage Fancy set) stamped in Onyx Black VersaFine completed this tiny note of gratitude.

Thank you for joining us in the Studio over the past few weeks as we shared our side-by-side Gelli Plate tutorials and our print transformations!

For our painterly technique (seen HERE), my finished print looked like this:
Here's how I transformed it and added it to my card:
Using a Spellbinder's die, I cut my print. I then added Brushed Corduroy Distress ink to the edges and slightly onto the painted portion.  I also stamped Penny Black 1999L Letter Background using blue ink, removing some of the ink from the stamp with a baby wipe before stamping.

I must admit, I got a bit carried away with this technique, and made two more cards following the same steps but using different "guide" images (Penny Black 4384K Promise Me and 4383K First Dance).

We found with this next technique, we could achieve a new painterly look using some of our favorite stamps.

These prints didn't stay sitting on our art tables very long... join us later this week to see how we transformed them for our next creative projects.

Tape technique inspiration found HERE
Of all of the Gelli Plate techniques we've tried so far in the Studio, this was the one that scared me!  Yes, scared me.  BUT, I think it might be my favorite.  Here's the "tape" that I ended with... (complete instructions available HERE)
and here's the reveal of how I used it...
Don't you love when something turns out the way you wanted it in your head?  :)  I used my "tape" on a card, mounting it to white cardstock for stability.  A few grey watercolor splashes, white punched circles, and a die cut sentiment (Penny Black 51-041 Friends Frame) were added before the project was mounted on a white notecard.

Now I'm dying to try this technique with some of my floral brushstroke stamps...does any one know how to add hours to the day? Haha!
